The Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Let them wash their garments and let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
God spoke these words to Moses to make sure the Israelites were ready to meet with Him. Before God’s people enter into a new experience or season with Him, there is always a time of preparation. Following Moses’ example, Joshua commanded the Israelites just before their entrance into the promised land, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you” (Joshua 3:5). This preparation often involves a time of fasting as when Nehemiah fasted for four months before embarking on the work of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem or when Jesus fasted 40 days in the desert before beginning his ministry.
As followers of Jesus we have good reason to believe this year God will do amazing works in and through us. His love, wisdom and power are abundantly available to accomplish all that is in His heart for Legacy Church.
Yet, what remains to be seen is: Will we be ready? Will our hearts be aligned with His? Will our spiritual ears be open to hear the Father’s specific plans and directions for us?
The Scriptures clearly teach that by consecrating ourselves (dedicating all we are and have to His purposes), we can be ready! These days of prayer and fasting are a powerful means of aligning ourselves with God’s Kingdom. They will increase our capacity for Him and equip us to follow wherever He leads.
If you are serious about seeing God “do wonders among us”, pray this prayer:
Father, I consecrate myself to You today! I give myself anew to You and to all You have planned for me in 2020. Thank you for purchasing me by the blood of Jesus and delivering me from the dominion of darkness. I belong to You and joyfully relinquish control of my life into Your loving hands! Amen!!
