The time has come; the moment you have been training for is now! You say a quick prayer, lace up your shoes and walk out onto the track. You are ready! You have prepared! As your feet touch the starting mark you quickly look around the stadium and suddenly it hits you like a ton of bricks…people are watching.
Not just any random group of people. You recognize some of their faces. These people look like they have run this race before. In fact, they still have their running gear on. So you stand there for a minute, attempting to regain your composure. And you notice that they are smiling at you. Some already started cheering you on. You hear a man’s voice, “Take off the extra weight!” Another voice belts out, “Look at Jesus, He is the BEST runner!” You are ready! You line up, dig in and BANG! The race begins.
We are all running a race of faith and our race takes endurance. It takes trusting Jesus at all times. It takes a positive attitude, a laser-like focus on Jesus, and a deep trust in the Holy Spirit to help us finish the race. The Bible is filled with normal men and women whose lives God used because they chose to trust Him. Do you find it difficult to trust God?
This Race Is Hard…It Is Going To Take All Of Me
Hebrews 12:1 says, “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
Take a moment to think about some “weights and sins” that are in your life that have been some hurdles you have had to jump over in your race of faith.
Let’s look back to that verse.
Hebrews 12:2 “looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
According to that amazing verse, we are to look at Jesus during our race. He should be our focus. So let us do just that! Take some time to desperately cry out to Jesus and ask him to remove the weights and sins that you thought about earlier.
When you are ready, pray this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I come to you right now with a focus undeterred. Help me to lay aside every sin and excuse that weighs me down. I repent of those things and pursue you. You are worthy of my entire focus. I look to you! In Jesus name, Amen
