DAY 07

pursue release

We live in a world where we want to keep everything we get. We work hard for the “things” in our lives: our cars, positions, reputations, leadership positions, and material things. What if God asked us to let go of it all? What if we were meant to hold onto things with open hands? I wonder if we could let it go? We work hard, we serve in church, we aren’t “as bad” as our siblings, we DESERVE to have what we have! Right!? Well, If Jesus is the Lord (master) of our lives then that answer is an emphatic no.

We gave up our rights when we called Jesus our Lord. We are now under His Lordship. If he tells us to give away our things then we do it. If he asks us to let go of those we lead… we do it. Why? Because He is LORD.

We are called to obey in ALL aspects of life not just in the convenient ones.

Mark 10:17-22 Message

17 As he went out into the street, a man came running up, greeted him with great reverence, and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to get eternal life?”
18-19 Jesus said, “Why are you calling me good? No one is good, only God. You know the commandments: Don’t murder, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t cheat, honor your father and mother.”
20 He said, “Teacher, I have—from my youth—kept them all!”
21 Jesus looked him hard in the eye—and loved him! He said, “There’s one thing left: Go sell whatever you own and give it to the poor. All your wealth will then be heavenly wealth. And come follow me.”
22 The man’s face clouded over. This was the last thing he expected to hear, and he walked off with a heavy heart. He was holding on tight to a lot of things, and not about to let go.

He was holding on tight to a lot of things and not about to let go.

Jesus being Lord is not about keeping rules, it is about believing that He has our very best interest at heart. Trusting Him to fill the voids of our lives when all is given away. Just to be clear, Jesus doesn’t take things away, He asks us to give them away.

Pursue Acts

Take a moment to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you areas in your life that He desires you to let go of. What is He telling you? Get a pen and paper and take some time to write.

The Lord now has given you instructions. Will you hold on tight or will you let go and trust Him?

When you are ready pray this prayer

Lord, I have held onto things for awhile now and I need to let them go. I do so in faith and obedience because you’ve been asking this of me. I trust you. Amen!
