DAY 05

pursue freedom

It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1

What does freedom look like??? What does freedom feel like? I think we all have a picture of freedom that is based on our past, but we need to look at the word to discover real freedom. Viktor frankl was a Jew in a nazi concentration camp in World War II. He lived in a place that would truly be described as hell on earth. He and the other prisoners were not only subjected to the worst living conditions, but they were physically and emotionally tortured. As he looked around at the other cellmates, he said he could tell when they were giving up and looking to die. He could look in their eyes and see that hope was being drained from them. Although physically they were alive, mentally they had been broken.

I don’t consider it a coincidence that God has brought us Pastor Max. His last name, Perez, means breakthrough or break out. I’ll take either. We’ve been praying for years for breakthroughs and I sincerely believe we are in position for some amazing things in 2020. This is the year of breakthrough!!

Viktor Frankl said this, “the last of all human freedoms is the ability to choose one’s own attitude regardless of circumstances.” In other words the enemy can never steal your peace or hope, but we can give it up. What we need for any breakthrough, whether it’s physical, emotional, relational or spiritual is faith. We not only need to know about faith, we need to apply that faith to our situation. Some of you have been waiting on God to move for years. Don’t give up!!! 2020 may be the year.

I grew up in Glens Falls and they host the second largest balloon festival in the country. At the time when I lived there it was the first and largest, but has been surpassed by the one in Albuquerque, New Mexico. If you ever get a chance to go, I’d strongly encourage you to do so. It’s so serene and beautiful to see the sky fill with these brightly colored ships drifting wherever the wind blows them. Watching them being swept away felt like freedom.

But there is some skill involved and the person directing the balloon is called a pilot. If you know a little about ballooning you’ll notice that the balloons at 1,000 feet appear to be going in one direction and the balloons at a higher altitude, say 3,500 feet, are going in a different direction. So the pilot has to know how high to go in order to reach his target. No steering wheel, no brakes, the only thing he can control is the altitude.

I believe the winds of freedom are blowing in the direction of Legacy Church and we all need to climb higher.

So let’s climb in our prayer life.

Let’s climb in our service.

Let’s go higher in our studies.

Let’s press into God like never before and corporately believe that this is going to be a breakout year for all of us. Amen?
